The Competition
The chosen format for the competition is the 2-person scramble. What does this entail? Both players of each team hit their first ball from the tee. With each stroke, the team selects the best of their two balls, and both players continue from that spot.
In golf, the 2-person scramble is somewhat akin to doubles in tennis. It’s a fairly playful form of play since the outcome doesn’t affect the handicap whatsoever. Therefore, both partners can play with a completely free spirit. However, like in tennis, both players must first agree on the mode of play: who drives first, who putts first, who indicates the putting line, all those little things that allow for good play while having fun.
The initiation
For those who wish to discover golf, a supervised initiation led by professional instructors will help you understand its subtleties and explore all facets of the game. During these 3 hours, the goal will be to make you fall in love with golf because it’s rare for a sport to be so beneficial for both body and mind, while combining a discovery of nature and conviviality. Here are the five benefits of golf on our health: Oxygenation, concentration, muscle building, exercise and relaxation.
RegistrationThe Course
Opened in 1992, Joyenval is an exceptional private club designed by Robert Trent Jones. The renowned architect took advantage of a remarkable historical site to envision two championship courses, Marly and Retz. Varied and accessible, they exhibit all the characteristics of a Trent Jones design: the fairways are wide, but the greens, rolling and undulating, are protected by numerous bunkers. The bogey is attainable, but the par much less so.
Marly revolvs around the Club House and historic outbuildings. It is a Par 72 measuring 6,177 meters. Playing it makes you realize the exceptional nature of the place : The double green of the 6th and 17th holes measures 2,500 square meters and may require a 50-meter putt. The 11th, an imposing downhill Par 3, offers a view of the outbuildings of the former Joyenval Abbey. As you approach the 12th hole, a short Par 4 with a devilish green, you linger over the ruins of the Joyenval Abbey gardens, which are several centuries old (1224). The final hole, a uphill Par 5, is symbolic of the place : the brick Club House in the background, its 10 bunkers surrounded by tall grass, and the double-tiered green offer one final challenge to the golfer.
